Step-by-Step to a Powerful Presence Online that Brings in New Clients
With Twitter and Facebook just about everywhere you turn – blogs, TV, magazines, the news, radio, the internet… have you jumped on the Social Media bandwagon yet? If not, is it because you just don’t know where to start? Maybe you’re embarrassed to say that you don’t even have a website yet. Well, not to worry.
As an online marketer and interior designer, I thought it might be helpful to walk you through the process I use when I’m hired to help a company establish an online presence. It’s systematic, step by step and the same for every business, no matter the industry. Would you like someone to walk you through the process? To make it easy and simple? I thought so. So let’s get started.
Step #1
First and foremost, we’ll need to assess where you are, right here, right now. Just like with a client consultation, you need to know what they do have, what they’re missing and what they need before you can develop a design plan for them. Take a few minutes to answer the following 5 simple questions. It’ll take you less than 5 minutes. Then post the answers below and click ‘Submit Comment’. It’s easy and it helps me to be able to help you! Think of it as personalized consulting lessons, written just for you!
1. Do you have a website? (If so, please provide the link.)
2. Do you have a blog? (Please provide the link.)
3. Do you have a Facebook page?
4, Are you on Twitter? (If so, please provide your name there.)
5. Do you have a resume or profile on LinkedIn? (Again, please provide the URL.)
Ok, that’s it. Go ahead and post the answers to these 5 simple questions in the section below and click ‘Submit Comment’. I’ll take it from there. Then keep an eye out for the next post for step #2. This is going to be so much fun!
If you’d like to be sure not to miss even one step in this series, then check back often and sign up for our newsletter on the right side of the page.
Don’t forget to leave your answers and/or a comment below! I’m really looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Liz!
Thanks for posting your links!
It looks like you are using WordPress for your website.
If so, do you find it easy to update? If not, what are you using?
Your Facebook Page is already using the Timeline, great!
One suggestion:
“Consider changing your Facebook Page username. Right now, it includes dashes and numbers. You want something that is easier to remember and spell. You can set your username one time, so choose carefully.
Quick Steps: Login to Facebook, Navigate to your page, and click “Edit Page”. On left, click Basic Information. You will see the option to set your username on the right.”

Great job!

Hi Celeste!
I enjoyed looking at your embroidery gallery on your website. Impressive!
I noticed that your Facebook posts have been about contemporary design lately. Do you have a related post on your blog that talks more about it?
Linking the two will go a long way to keep your readers engaged on both sites.
Barbara
I have a website, facebook business page, blog, twitter and linkedin, manta, plaxo, etc but they are not linked. Would like to know how to link all together.
Hi Beuancha,
You have covered it quite well. Your Twitter Profile, LinkedIn page, Manta listing, and Plaxo account are tools to build interest in your business and create a following. This following will navigate to your website, Facebook business page, and blog all which are great destinations to send potential clients.

Looking forward to any help you can suggest, especially regarding getting all of these linked properly.
Hi Linda,
Thank you for your comments.
I took a look at your Facebook Page. You’ve got some great content there.
My suggestions:
1. Consider changing your Facebook Page username. Right now, it includes dashes and numbers. You want something that is easier to remember and spell. You can set your username one time, so choose carefully.
Quick Steps: Login to Facebook, Navigate to your page, and click “Edit Page”. On left, click Basic Information. You will see the option to set your username on the right.
2. Looks like you have a WordPress-controlled blog, instead of a Self-Hosted blog. There are advantages to having a self-hosted blog, primarily increasing your Brand Recognition.
I’m sure you can make the switch with a little guidance. If you are ready to take the plunge, check out our e-book “Boost Business with an Interior Design Blog” .
Let me know if you have further questions.

Hi Jeffrey,
Thanks for posting your links.
1. Great website! I love your logo and slogan.
2. How often do you update your blog?
3. You should be able to edit your Facebook username to correct the misspelling. Click Home, Account Settings and look for a username option.
4. Your Twitter page is consistent with your Brand look. Great job! Follow us @hidollardesign.
5. Your LinkedIn page gives a good overview of your professional experience. Think of ways to help others with your in-depth knowledge of construction project management. That is a great blog series and possible future product.

Hi Barbara,
Thanks for your feedback – I’ve set my FB name as SignatureInteriorspage so I hope this will be easier to find and use; thanks for the tip.
I must say that I don’t really “get” twitter or linkedin and if you have any advise on these I’d be grateful.
Hi
Planning to launch my freelance business this summer only, hence the following applies currently:
1) http://www.globalinspirationsdesign.com (not set up yet)
2) Blog n/a
3) Facebook only personal not business oriented
4) Twitter n/a
5) Linked In yes, but not related to my business (yet)
Any tips and suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Simone
Hi Simone!
Thanks for responding.
Great job on securing your website name in advance. This allows you to rest easy knowing that your website project will have one less obstacle when you are ready to set it up.
You can combine your website and blog into one using WordPress. Have you thought about that? My e-book gives you a step-by-step guide to setting it up.

Hi Bob,
So glad to hear that you are enjoying the interaction. That is really what it’s all about.
Your website has a clean design and is easy to navigate. That is appealing to the masses, and you get bonus points from design professionals when your design looks good – smile.
Awesome job with your blog. Again, it has a great design. Plus, you make it easy to find you on Social Media outlets, as well as to buy your products on Etsy. I love Etsy! One suggestion would be to post a bit more often, even if it’s once per month (i.e. 1st of every month).
In your LinkedIn profile, highlight what makes you unique. For example, I source the most beautiful wood available from specialty “boutique” mills across the country…
For the Vedere site, you want to make sure that your profile entices people to buy by again highlighting what makes your products stand out.
The RedVault is a Texas-centered website, so I’d suggest really keying in on some Texas-isms – smile – things only a Texan would understand (while staying true to your company’s mission).
For CustomMade, this site is obviously for people who value unique pieces. You’ll want to spend some time researching where this type of customer hangs out, what makes them buy, etc…
I hope that you’ve found these tips valuable. If you’d like more customized direction, please go to our ( Contact Page), and we’ll followup with you for a consultation.
wow .. its amazing thank you
